Charles Eifrig, M.D., F.A.C.S. received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he was awarded an academic merit award for scholastic achievement and excellence in ophthalmic research. He completed his transitional internship at Mercy Hospital, in San Diego, California and was named “Outstanding Intern of the Year” by the pediatric service. Dr. Eifrig finished his residency at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida followed by being honored as Chief Resident. Dr. Eifrig then completed a vitreoretinal medical and surgical fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in 2003 where he was the Director of Ocular Trauma and Emergency Services. Dr. Eifrig also served as the “Team Eye Surgeon” for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 2005-2008. He has authored numerous papers in the peer-reviewed ophthalmology literature and participated in various clinical trials. He is currently a manuscript reviewer for two Ophthalmology journals and serves on the panel reviewer committee for the journal Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging. Dr. Eifrig sees patients at the Newport Beach, Laguna Hills, and Santa Ana offices.

Communicative, patient, thorough, extremely qualified and very personable Dr. Eifrig took as much time as was needed to address my concerns better that 3 previous opthamologists. Dr. Eifrig provided my 3rd second opinion and it did differ from the previous doctors. OC Retina wanted to keep injecting my eyeball and Dr Eifrig said this did not appear to be the correct treatm’t based on what he found during my exam. He was personable and comforting. His staff was also exemplary. Great referral!
